The Collection Lambert in Avignon opened to the public in Summer 2000. Over forty years, Parisian gallery owner Yvon Lambert has patiently built up an art collection that is unique in France - with the view of one day handing it over to the State. The collection reflects the great contemporary art movements of our time: Minimal Art, Conceptual Art – with Carl Andre, Lawrence Weiner, Sol LeWitt; Land Art with artists including Christo, Richard Long, Gordon Matta-Clark; 1980s painting with Jean-Charles Blais, Anselm Kiefer, Francesco Clemente, Jean-Michel Basquiat or Julian Schnabel and video and photography with Andres Serrano, Nan Goldin or Douglas Gordon.

Furthermore, the collection retains exceptional ensembles of works by Cy Twombly, Robert Ryman, Brice Marden or Miquel Barceló. Laden with history, the hôtel particulier that now houses Lambert’s collection, once held, during the eighteenth century, the collections of the Marquis de Caumont. In great spaces bathed in Provencal light, a succession of exhibitions of the collection and great thematic and solo exhibitions have been presented, including artists rarely shown in France. Over the years the museum has become a meeting place where one can also attend conferences, participate in workshops (for children), select books and artists’ editions from the museum bookshop or lunch under the plane trees in the museum courtyard. The Collection also organizes exhibitions elsewhere in France and overseas.

Founded in 2008 by lovers of the museum, with Princess Jeanne-Marie de Broglie as President, the association of Friends of the Collection Lambert in Avignon has the objective of contributing to the development and thriving of the museum in accompanying it in all its activities. To join the Friends is to participate in an exceptional artistic adventure and to become a privileged player in the museum’s activities. It also means choosing to have a front row seat to follow and understand contemporary art creation in all its diversity and richness.

Thanks to its friends, the Collection Lambert can continue to play a sterling role in the artistic scene, whilst establishing a durable and privileged relationship with those who accompany the museum.
